Paintings
When asked to characterize these acrylic on stretched canvas paintings, I describe the non-representational works as colliding blocks of color made orderly over time.
Untethered to images in the natural world, they are strongly autobiographical. Embedded in each painting is what I observe around me during their making. My hand is evident in repeated attempts at both line control and hue perfection. Color is my hero protagonist, more pure these days and covering larger areas. My paintings are open, direct and proudly optimistic. Urgent “first drafts” are tempered by the reality that they always take their own time. Every part of the surface has been considered.
