Ky Anderson, Laura Nugent, Sally Paul, Alison Tirrell

Wavelength brings together four prolific abstract artists whose individual works generate vibrating frequencies that hum in conversation together.

Ky Anderson visualizes dreamscapes, dissecting the essence of time through radiant, saturated, expanding, and overlapping forms. Sally Paul’s peels of woven and collaged acrylic paint conjure the free spirit of summer camp crafts while honoring a long line of female-driven abstraction inspired by pioneers such as Anni Albers.

Alison Tirrell’s architecturally minded works also are reminiscent of childhood, created largely through intuition and improvisation. The shaped-wood paintings of Laura Nugent explore the surprising possibilities of color and pattern, often containing multiple underpaintings that bring the viewer in close for further investigation.

Anderson, Paul, and Nugent are based in Kansas City. Tirrell lives and works in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Their nine-week exhibition in the Rocky and Gabriella Mountain Gallery, on the second floor of the Central Library, continues the Library’s reflection on the importance and impact of showcasing fine art as it celebrates the 150th year of its founding through 2024. Wavelength aims to provide viewers with a dynamic and vibrant environment through its inspiring variety of painting processes, building visual literacy with various modes of communication and pure expression through abstract
